"Mountains are not static, but they are dynamic".

Mountains are not only the source of water, forest, soil, etc but also the source of inspiration who loves nature. People of mountain watershed are living with taking its many benefits and fearing threats of natural hazards on the other hand. Our laboratory focuses on building the capabilities to tackle with mountain natural hazards and to enhance sustainable mountain watershed management as well.

Life of the people in mountain watershed is always in danger of disasters such as landslides that occur on mountain slopes. But on the other side, slope movements occasionally create diverse landscape which is remarkable benefaction to the mountain ecology.

We are digging up the mitigation measures against erosion/sedimentation disasters and conservation of mountain watersheds by studying geomorphological and geological features of the mountain. These features show the history of past geomorphic changes and also help to predict how the slopes and streams of the mountain will be in future. Moreover, we also study the vegetation geo-ecologically which reflects the condition of water and soil of the mountain.

At present, people in many developing countries are living in poverty and degraded watershed environment due to serious erosion and sedimentation problems. Recent climatic changes also seems to be threatening us through such disasters in a grobal scale.

Japan has developed outstanding technology in the filed of erosion and sedimentation control (Sabo). Hence, Japanese cooperation in this field is highly required for the developing countries.

"Let's study about dynamic mountains for better Environment and Livelihood".
